Senior Legal Counsel – Financial Services Regulation
Position Overview:
The Senior Legal Counsel – Financial Services Regulation provides expert legal guidance within a dynamic financial services environment. This senior position plays a critical role in supporting the entity’s regulatory objectives and maintaining compliance with financial regulations through proactive, high-quality legal advisory and risk management.
Key Duties and Objectives:
- Legal Advisory Services: Deliver timely and accurate legal advice on financial services regulation, policy initiatives, investigations, enforcement matters, and the processes linked to the authorization and supervision of financial service providers.
- Policy Support: Perform legal analysis and contribute to drafting activities that underpin policy development for regulatory frameworks.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and escalate urgent, high-risk, or reputational matters, ensuring swift and appropriate action in line with organizational standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal business units to ensure aligned and coordinated legal support while fostering effective relationships that prioritize client needs and regulatory compliance.
- Reporting: Prepare, review, and contribute to high-standard documentation, reports, and briefing materials for senior management and regulatory committees.
- Compliance and Procedures: Implement departmental policies and procedures to guarantee compliance with legislative requirements while providing efficient, cost-effective legal services.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and drive enhancements in legal services by leveraging best practices and new technologies.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in law.
- Professional Credentials: Current practicing certificate or equivalent right to practice in law from a common law jurisdiction.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years post-qualification legal experience, with a background in financial services regulation, either from a highly ranked international law firm or a financial services regulator.
- Skills: Strong analytical and legal drafting skills, with the ability to advise on complex legal matters with minimal supervision.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to negotiate and persuade effectively, contributing to multidisciplinary teams.
