Legal Advisor – Real Estate & Regulatory Affairs
About the Role
For one of our partner, we are looking for an enthusiastic Legal Counsel to join their Legal & Tax team. The role covers a wide range of topics, including commercial and contract law, consumer relations and market practices, competition law, real estate, and security matters (including cybersecurity and NIS2). You will help companies in the trade sector navigate existing and upcoming legislation, develop shared positions, and defend these towards relevant stakeholders. The position involves bringing member companies together, sharing knowledge, organizing seminars, and more. In short, it’s a highly varied and dynamic role within a sector undergoing significant transformation.
About the Organization
This trade association represents the commerce and services sector in Belgium. Its members operate both B2B and B2C, offline and online, across 18 industries — from e-commerce platforms and retail chains to restaurants and catering companies. The sector represents 11% of the country’s GDP and employs 550,000 people, making it the largest private employer in Belgium and a vital part of daily life for millions of consumers.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze the impact of Belgian and European legislation, case law, and legal doctrine on the trade and services sector, and communicate these insights
- Provide information and practical legal advice to member companies and represent their interests at regional, federal, and European levels
- Lead two member commissions — Security and Real Estate & Expansion — preparing sector positions with company experts and coordinating thematic working groups
- Defend sector positions with policymakers in collaboration with the lobbying team
- Build and maintain a broad professional network among members and external partners
Profile
- Master’s degree in law
- Experience as a consultant, lawyer, or in-house counsel in Real Estate law
- Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical advice
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken
- Analytical, hands-on, and business-minded approach
- Dynamic personality with the ability to inspire and persuade others
- Fluent in French and Dutch
- Initiative-driven, responsible, and a strong team player
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently
- Flexible and eager to learn
