Legal Counsel | Energy
Position: Legal & Regulatory Officer (Dutch-speaking)
Location: Leuven (every 2 weeks) and Liège (every 2 weeks) | Full-time | Hybrid work model (4 days of homeworking)
A fast-growing energy group is looking for a passionate Dutch-speaking Legal & Regulatory Officer to strengthen and help further develop its legal and regulatory department at the group level. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, sustainable organization operating in the energy and telecom sectors.
Role Overview:
As part of the Legal & Regulatory team, you’ll act as a trusted advisor on legal and compliance matters, working closely with departments such as Sales, Marketing, Customer Experience, and Operations. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing legal support to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks related to energy, consumer rights, and retail operations.
- Monitoring and proactively identifying relevant changes in the legal and regulatory landscape (e.g., energy transition policies, EU directives, updated codes of conduct).
- Supporting operational teams in implementing regulations and promoting continuous improvement.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, managing disputes, and coordinating with external law firms when needed.
- Engaging with key stakeholders (regulators, grid operators, industry federations, public authorities, legal partners, consumer organizations, and policymakers), particularly focusing on Flemish and Dutch-speaking interregional/federal matters.
- Identifying business opportunities and assisting with proactive lobbying efforts.

Profile:
- Master’s degree in Law.
- Around 3 years of relevant experience in consumer and contract law, ideally as in-house counsel in the energy sector or another highly regulated environment.
- Strong interest in the energy market and its key players and developments.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly convey complex legal concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, pragmatic, analytical, and results-focused.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Native Dutch speaker or fluent in Dutch, with a good command of English and/or French.
