Head of Enterprise Risk Management
The Head of Enterprise Risk Management plays a key role in supporting stakeholders such as EXCO, Senior Management, and Shariah in developing and maintaining the bank’s risk governance framework. Working across both Conventional and Islamic Banking portfolios, this role drives awareness of Operational Risk, Market Risk, and Liquidity Risk. The primary objective is to embed strong enterprise risk management processes throughout the organization by coordinating, communicating, and executing aspects related to the Bank's Risk Management framework.
On a day-to-day basis, the Head of Enterprise Risk Management serves as the central liaison between departments, ensuring risk culture is understood and adopted firmwide. Responsibilities involve interfacing directly with business lines to identify, assess, and help mitigate potential risks that may affect the bank’s objectives and reputation. A focused effort is placed on Credit Risk, ensuring frameworks and controls align with organizational goals and external regulatory requirements.
Key Functions and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and refine the risk governance framework in partnership with key stakeholders and in alignment with Shariah and regulatory standards.
- Lead initiatives to promote and strengthen awareness regarding Operational, Market, and Liquidity Risk—spanning both Conventional and Islamic Banking activities.
- Facilitate the effective implementation of the enterprise risk management process through clear communication, seamless coordination, and targeted execution.
- Liaise interdepartmentally to gain insight into line-of-business activities, ensuring timely identification and mitigation of potential and emerging risk exposures.
- Analyze and interpret comprehensive risk reports to uncover critical exposures and highlight opportunities across the enterprise.
- Oversee and drive the effective management of Credit Risk, ensuring alignment with both internal policies and external compliance mandates.
- Develop and monitor methodologies for robust risk assessment, management, and reporting in accordance with best practices in financial risk management.
- Ensure strong compliance management practices, regularly assessing frameworks against corporate law and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and industry trends, integrating these insights into the bank’s risk management strategies.
- Build and sustain ongoing channels for clear and effective communication with stakeholders regarding institutional risk posture and mitigation plans.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Risk Assessment and Management
- Financial Risk Management expertise (including Credit Risk, Operational Risk, Market Risk, Liquidity Risk)
- Compliance Management and Regulatory Compliance (including Shariah-related compliance as it applies)
- Strong grasp of Corporate Law as relevant to banking operations
- Proficient stakeholder communication, particularly in complex or high-stakes scenarios
- Strategic Financial Planning within the context of enterprise risk (as applicable)
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)

The ideal candidate is a seasoned Risk Management professional with a robust track record of 10 to 15 years of progressive experience, including over four years in supervisory or management roles within mid-sized or large commercial banking environments. This individual possesses a deep understanding of the complex landscape of modern risk regulation and practices, particularly the frameworks established under Basel I, II, and III. Their academic credentials are equally impressive, holding a master’s degree in banking or a closely related financial discipline.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrates considerable expertise in Credit Risk, applying a thorough knowledge of both industry best practices and evolving regulatory requirements.
- Core Competencies: Exhibits advanced proficiency in risk assessment, risk management, financial risk management, compliance management, and regulatory compliance—paired with a strong grounding in corporate law.
- Leadership Mindset: Brings a strategic approach to risk management, balancing compliance and business objectives while fostering a culture of accountability and proactive risk mitigation.
- Stakeholder Influence: Skilled in high-level stakeholder communication, with the ability to convey complex risk considerations clearly and persuasively to executive teams and board members.
