As Head of Accounting, you will oversee the company’s full accounting operations, managing a team of eight professionals. Your primary focus will be on fund accounting , ensuring compliance and accuracy in all financial recording and reporting. Working closely with senior management, you’ll guide the department in accordance with best practices and applicable regulations.

  • Lead general accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and closing processes.
  • Ensure timely preparation and delivery of financial statements and reports, following IFRS and local regulations.
  • Oversee tax law compliance for all relevant entities, in conjunction with external stakeholders.
  • Manage and reinforce motivational leadership within the team, supporting professional growth and maintaining strong staff engagement.
  • Coordinate and supervise internal and external audits, ensuring audit readiness and the timely resolution of findings.
  • Support financial planning tasks, including budgeting and financial analysis as needed.
  • Interact with clients and stakeholders, primarily Dutch-speaking but with sufficient command of French to operate effectively in a bilingual setting.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with ITAA requirements; progress towards certification within one year is acceptable.

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about accounting and who thrive in collaborative, people-oriented environments. The ideal person is an experienced finance professional who combines strong technical expertise with a hands-on leadership style, capable of inspiring and guiding a team to success.

  • Technical Proficiency: Solid background in general accounting, fund accounting, and financial reporting within a mid-sized or large organization, ideally with exposure to the insurance or financial services sector. Sound knowledge of IFRS standards and practical experience with tax law are important assets.
  • Qualifications: Candidates who hold (or are actively working towards) an ITAA accreditation are essential. We value those committed to continuous professional development.
  • Relevant Experience: We seek individuals with 5-20 years of relevant experience in accounting or audit, ideally gained in a Big 4, fiduciary, or similar demanding environment. Experience managing and developing accounting teams is highly valued.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to motivate, coach, and empower colleagues and to foster a culture of openness and trust. The right person is approachable, hands-on, and focused on results without losing sight of the team’s well-being.
  • Language Skills: Strong command of Dutch is essential, with a practical understanding of French highly desirable. The ability to communicate confidently with Dutch-speaking clients and stakeholders is necessary.
