Civil Engineering & Biology - R&D
Position Overview: This senior role leads and manages the R&D Team, bridging civil engineering with biological processes. The job centers on coordinating researchers, translating technical developments into actionable business projects, and fostering collaboration with both internal and global incubation experts. The position features broad technical exposure, especially at the intersection of biology and incubation technologies.
- Lead the R&D Team, driving cross-disciplinary innovation and coordinating researchers from varied backgrounds.
- Coordinate in-house laboratory experiments, pilot field trials with external stakeholders, and joint research with universities and institutes.
- Maintain an overview of incubation projects, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and timely delivery of milestones.
- Act as a technical translator, turning early research findings into practical and scalable development projects that serve business objectives.
- Foster strong reporting practices, ensuring all work is documented, evaluated, and communicated effectively to both technical and non-technical teams.
- Integrate new technologies and stay alert to advances in biomimetic materials and process development, considering feasibility and end-user value.
- Work in a diverse, international environment where English is the primary language (Dutch a plus) and coordinate with team members and partners globally.
- Occasional travel required to partner sites and for collaborative project meetings.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in civil engineering (preferably with specialization in bioengineering, electromechanics, or similar).
- Proven team management and project coordination experience.
- Ability to bridge technical research and business needs.
- Expertise in analytical chemistry and scientific documentation.
- Experience or interest in materials science and biological systems highly valued.
We are looking for candidates who are passionate about bridging the worlds of civil engineering and biology, and who are excited to be at the forefront of technical innovation. As this is a newly created and technically stimulating opportunity, the ideal person will demonstrate curiosity and an eagerness to explore the intersection of engineering, materials science, and biological systems—even if it requires stepping beyond traditional training.
- Academic Background: A master’s degree in civil engineering is essential, ideally with further specialization or notable interest in bioengineering, electromechanics, control technology, or related disciplines. Experience or affinity with materials science is also considered highly valuable.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated experience in leading research teams, with a talent for fostering collaboration across diverse backgrounds and disciplines. We especially value those who can inspire and build high-performing teams in an R&D environment.
- Technical Translation: We seek an individual adept at translating complex biological concepts and technical findings into actionable engineering projects that align with strategic business objectives and real-world needs.
- Strategic & Analytical Mindset: You combine a hands-on approach with sharp analytical skills and strategic thinking, maintaining a focus on innovation, feasibility, and end-user value in all projects.
- Communication: Outstanding communication abilities are essential for connecting with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, reporting on progress clearly, and ensuring thorough scientific documentation.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in English is required given our international environment; knowledge of Dutch is a real plus.
- Adaptability: A flexible, open-minded approach and readiness to embrace novel technologies or ideas are highly valued. Willingness to travel as part of research collaboration and project coordination is important.
We are looking for an individual who brings both deep technical expertise and a natural curiosity for exploring where engineering meets biology, someone driven to lead, innovate, and shape the future in a collaborative, global team setting.
