General Ledger Accountant (Brussels)

As a General Ledger Accountant, your responsibilities will cover a broad range of key accounting tasks:
- Oversee the general ledger process from A to Z, handling full-cycle accounting operations including month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in line with both BE GAAP and IFRS standards.
- Carry out essential functions such as account reconciliations, accruals, provisions, and fixed assets accounting.
- Manage VAT, corporate tax, and other statutory declarations ensuring compliance with local regulations.
- Collaborate closely with internal and external auditors, providing required documentation, analysis, and explanations as needed.
- Provide ongoing support to the Finance Manager and Controllers with financial reporting, data analysis, and the identification of process improvement opportunities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and participate in digitalization projects designed to streamline the accounting function.
Scope of the role: This position serves as a key contributor within an international, multicultural finance team, handling both local and international accounting standards, and working cross-functionally with stakeholders in several departments. Working regularly with advanced ERP systems (such as SAP) and employing strong proficiency in Excel is expected. The ability to communicate effectively in French, Dutch, and English is critical for success in this environment. - Qualifications: Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a minimum of five years’ relevant experience managing the general ledger and reporting cycles.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with ERP systems—preferably SAP—and Excel. Possess a strong working knowledge of statutory compliance and financial reporting requirements.
- Language Abilities: Fluency in French, Dutch, and English, with the ability to communicate effectively and confidently with both local and international stakeholders.
- Personal Qualities: Analytical and meticulous, with a keen eye for detail. Highly reliable under pressure, meeting deadlines and efficiently managing multiple priorities. Comfortable embracing change and actively contributing to continuous improvement and digitalization initiatives within the accounting domain.
- Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills, able to build productive relationships and collaborate across departments. Willingness to support and provide insights during audits and reporting cycles, and to share knowledge and best practices with colleagues.
- Growth Mindset: Motivated to advance professionally within a rewarding and challenging finance team, open to ongoing learning and exposure to both local and international accounting standards.
