Senior Fire Safety Engineer responsible for functional safety oversight within industrial projects, operating in complex and regulated environments. The role involves extensive collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure tailored fire safety solutions that meet strict regulatory and insurance standards.
- Conduct and validate risk analyses covering fire, explosion, and internal flooding based on current regulations, standards, and internal methodologies.
- Perform or review fire safety modeling and sizing studies, delivering pragmatic recommendations aligned with specific project needs.
- Ensure consistency between existing fire detection and protection systems and the evolving requirements of new and ongoing projects.
- Integrate cross-disciplinary requirements from HVAC, electrical, instrumentation, insurers, and regulatory frameworks into holistic fire safety solutions.
- Draft and review technical documentation in both French and English for decision-making, regulatory submissions, and project teams.
- Operate with awareness of nuclear safety requirements and possess, or be eligible for, relevant Belgian nuclear safety certification.
This position demands technical expertise in fire safety engineering, coupled with fluency in French and English, and proficiency in technical writing and digital tools. Familiarity with Dutch and with nuclear safety standards is a plus.
We are looking for candidates who combine a genuine passion for fire safety with proven expertise in complex, industrial settings. The ideal person thrives in multi-disciplinary teams, brings critical thinking and clarity to high-stakes projects, and demonstrates autonomy alongside a strong sense of responsibility.
- Expertise and Qualifications: Holds an engineering degree (in civil, mechanical, fire safety, or nuclear disciplines) with a robust background in industrial fire engineering. At least ten years of relevant experience equips them to confidently advise, validate, and innovate in line with evolving regulations and industry standards.
- Analytical Mindset: Approaches risk assessment with precision and an ability to integrate technical requirements across multiple disciplines (including HVAC, electrical, and instrumentation) while aligning with both regulatory and insurance frameworks.
- Communication and Influence: Possesses outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling collaboration across a broad range of stakeholders. The ability to convey complex technical insights clearly is essential.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfort with technical documentation, modeling tools, and IT solutions is key. Candidates can produce, review, and present detailed analyses adapted for technical and non-technical audiences alike.
- Language Skills: Full proficiency in both French and English is required. Knowledge of Dutch is an asset, enabling even broader collaboration within the project environment.
- Integrity and Safety Commitment: Maintains exemplary standards in operational safety, ideally with current nuclear safety clearance or the capability to obtain it quickly.
- Personal Attributes: Displays initiative, rigour, and adaptability—a resourceful professional ready to navigate the challenges inherent to large-scale, regulated industrial projects.
We value individuals who think strategically, act decisively, and are motivated by long-term impact in the realm of fire and functional safety engineering.
