Legal Advisor | Commercial Real Estate law
Job Description
One of my partners is seeking an enthusiastic Legal Advisor to join and strengthen their Legal team. In this varied and stimulating role, you will work at the intersection of commercial real estate law and general commercial law, supporting Belgium's dynamic retail and services sector through a period of significant transformation. You will monitor and analyse Belgian and European legislation, translate complex legal developments into clear, actionable insights, and help member companies—ranging from online platforms to large retail chains—understand and apply new and existing rules.
Your work will span commercial leases, permits, energy policies (including solar panels and charging station regulations), B2C e-commerce legislation, and digital commerce. You will draft sector positions, defend them with stakeholders at regional, federal, and European levels, and organize knowledge-sharing activities such as seminars, working groups, and meetings. This is a role that combines strategic legal analysis with practical stakeholder engagement and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and track developments in Belgian and European law relating to commercial real estate and general commercial law, including B2C legislation in the e-commerce and digital sphere
- Analyse the impact of new legislation, case law, and legal doctrine on the retail and services sector, and communicate findings clearly and accessibly to member companies and internal stakeholders
- Advise member companies on compliance and legal implications, and defend their interests and positions at regional, federal, and European policy levels
- Collaborate with the Head of Legal & Tax to develop and refine strategic positions on commercial real estate and B2C e-commerce matters
- Proactively engage with policymakers and other stakeholders to advocate for sector interests and shape regulatory development
- Lead and coordinate the Real Estate Committee, facilitating dialogue and knowledge exchange among members
- Organize and deliver seminars, working groups, and knowledge-sharing sessions to support member understanding of legal requirements
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a legal professional with a strong foundation in commercial law, real estate law, and e-commerce regulation, combined with excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in the retail sector. You should be comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where legal landscapes shift rapidly, and you thrive on translating complexity into clarity.
The ideal candidate brings both analytical rigour and stakeholder-facing diplomacy, with the ability to build relationships across diverse audiences—from member companies to government bodies. You are proactive, intellectually curious, and energized by the opportunity to shape sector policy and support business growth through sound legal guidance.
Experience & Expertise Required:
- Solid background in commercial law, with particular expertise or strong interest in commercial real estate (leases, permits, property regulations) ; expertise B2C e-commerce and digital commerce law is a big plus
- Demonstrated experience monitoring and analysing Belgian and/or European legislation and case law, and translating legal developments for non-specialist audiences
- Experience advising businesses on compliance, legal risk, and regulatory matters
- Familiarity with policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, or sector representation (ideally in retail, services, or a similar commercial environment)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Dutch and French (English is a plus) ; ability to draft clear legal analyses and position papers
