Senior Automation Engineer
As a Senior Automation Engineer, you are responsible for PLC machine control and SCADA programming for new hardware and target manufacturing machines. Your scope includes aligning the automation installation schedule with the project manager and collaborating closely with both electrical engineering and project management on selecting PLC and network components.
- Create and update functional descriptions for industrial machinery and review these specifications for completeness and compliance.
- Conduct functional final inspections of machines prior to shipment to ensure quality and performance criteria are met.
- Assist with upgrades and service interventions on-site at international customer locations, representing technical expertise in automation.
- Program and optimise control systems primarily using Siemens (TIA Portal, Step7) in addition to other platforms such as Rockwell, Mitsubishi, or Beckhoff.
- Work with process visualization systems like WinCC, Wonderware, and iFIX, ensuring effective monitoring and operator interfaces.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics for integration with project requirements.
- Implement servomotion technology and support machine safety and industrial network protocols.
- Collaborate on electrical circuit design and support functional commissioning tasks.
- Utilise knowledge of IT programming languages (such as .NET, C++, C#, SQL) for system enhancements.
- Balance multiple project priorities independently and maintain effective teamwork within engineering groups.
This role requires travel (up to 30%) to customer locations. Proficiency in both English and Dutch (written and spoken) is essential for documentation and effective communication.
We are looking for candidates who bring not only deep technical expertise, but also display a high level of maturity, independence, and commitment to excellence. Success in this position requires a blend of advanced automation know-how, a passion for innovative solutions, and the flexibility to adapt to evolving project demands.
- Extensive Experience: Ideal candidates will have spent at least a decade in senior automation roles within machine-building companies, where they have excelled in engineering complex industrial systems involving PLC and SCADA technologies.
- Comprehensive Technical Knowledge: A strong educational foundation such as a master’s degree in electrotechnics, automation, or a closely related field is essential. Solid command of Siemens platforms (including TIA Portal and Step7) as well as hands-on experience with another leading PLC system is highly valued.
- Specialized Skills: Familiarity with process visualization systems like WinCC, Wonderware, and iFIX, together with the ability to interpret electrical schematics, are crucial. Candidates with knowledge of motion control systems, machine safety, and industrial network protocols will thrive in this environment. Affinity with IT programming languages (such as .NET, C++, C#, or SQL) is a definite advantage.
- Solution-Oriented and Detail-Focused: We seek individuals who are methodical, attentive to detail, and rigorous when it comes to ensuring quality—from concept to final inspection. Candidates should combine project management awareness with the ability to effectively set priorities and adapt to changing timelines.
- Hands-On and Customer-Centric: A proactive, hands-on personality and a commercial mindset are critical. The ideal candidate takes ownership of challenges and genuinely enjoys collaborating with customers on technical requirements, system upgrades, and service interventions.
- Team Player with Independence: While autonomy is essential, candidates must also embrace teamwork, maintaining productive relationships with project managers, engineers, and clients alike.
- Flexibility and Language Skills: Candidates should be willing and able to travel internationally as needed, and must be fluent in both English and Dutch.
If you are eager to make a significant impact through your expertise, reliability, and client-focused approach within a leading machinery and automation environment, you may be the talent we seek.
